Whistle Blowers Save The Government Billions
As it turns out it does the government and the nations taxpayers a world of good when individual citizens decide to get involved and provide the federal government information or tips whenever they are aware of any kind of fraudulent activity designed to rip off the government. While it often costs certain amounts in terms of reward money that is offered to motivate individuals to come forward, the government recovers these amounts back many times over. According to the Department of Justice the government paid out in excess of 190 million dollars in fees and rewards to various informants and whistle blowers for tips about activity that was frauding the government. Once the information was aquired and the Justice Department had the nessessary information to pursue charges against offenders it secured favorable rulings and settlements in cases that resulted in the recovery of over 3.1 billion dollars in 2006. Most of the money was recovered from various hospitals and health care providers nationwide.
