Why Lottery Tickets Are A Waste Of Money

I was standing on line in front of the counter of my favorite deli/grocery store last night at about 6 p.m. I just had a small one pound box of pasta that i was waiting to pay for so that i could go home and cook it and then add some sauce to it from my fridge and have a little meal for dinner. In front of me at the register was this woman who was busy taking up all the time of the clerk keeping him busy at the lottery machine picking out numbers for her to play. She kept picking more numbers and more numbers and more numbers. She finally stopped but not after she had bought 20 one dollar mega millions tickets and picked different numbers for every one of them. Watching this nonsense going on in front of me made me realize why i stopped buying lottery tickets in the first place years ago. I used to go into the store and in addition to the food that i used to buy i always used to ask for a lotto quick pick almost as an after thought because i figured all right whats the harm in trying right? I took the ticket home that day and i finally looked at the back of it to read it because i had never done that before. It said on the back that the odds of winning the lottery were, and I'm not kidding about this, 1 in 180,000,000. I thought to myself - OH, SO THAT'S WHY I NEVER WIN ON ANY OF THESE TICKETS. If you think odds of 1 in a million suck how bad does 1 in 180 million grab you? I don't buy anymore lottery tickets ever. Those odds are just impossible. it is not even anything that begins to approach anything fair. So now every time i find myself on line in back of some idiot who is buying 20 lottery tickets, and it happens a lot, i keep thinking about two things. The money she is wasting trying to beat those impossible odds and my time she is wasting making me wait for her to finish up with her nonsense. Reality is important. Do you know what 1 in 180 million means? It means your a sucker.
